9th Commandment

Our pastor has been preaching on the Ten Commandments on Sunday nights. Tonight was the 9th, and like the others, it is worth a listen! I find God's timing to be such a blessing and comfort. He anticipates our needs and circumstances so often, and cares for us.

When God is leading us, we're not in active sin, we can't be. It's revealing when we think we're following the Lord while simultaneously deceiving someone else,  or disobeying a clear command of His. That's an indicator that who we're listening to or following isn't the Lord of the Bible. It is a god of our own creation who allows us to do things that make us feel good, but which He is against. 

It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of a holy God. When people fail us, we must not let that turn our eyes from the One with all the answers. He is a good and gracious Lord, long-suffering, with an ability to endure hardships far beyond our human frailty. It would be nice if we could all be good and sufficient in all the ways, but we just can't, despite our desire to be so or efforts to be so. Praise God when people lovingly tell us of our failures! May He use our weakness to grow us and move us into the work He has for us where we can succeed. Praise God for a loving heavenly King who knows our hearts and the intents of our hearts. He is the rewarder of our work and the One who can heal our wounds.

I've appreciated Voddie's commitment to the family and God's order for the home for years. His teaching on this topic reveals a solid grasp of what is needed to lead and guide a family. In order to lead, a man needs a woman willing to follow. 

Many conservative Christian young women want to be full-time homemakers and mothers, and many want to homeschool their children. This takes fortitude, the ability to work hard, industriousness, and a strong walk with the Lord. Educated mothers can raise educated children. 

There are men who want a traditional family to lead and care for. This requires a plan and intentionality.

My advice to men: work hard at becoming a man who can provide stability spiritually, emotionally and financially for a family. Be men of integrity; finish what you start, and do what you say you will do. Get advice from the type of man a quality girl will seek out.

My advice to young women: work hard serving those around you, have a job where you can use your talents and support yourself should you end up not marrying, and cultivate modest femininity. Men don't want a girl who looks like she's waiting around for a meal ticket. 

No one expects perfection in a young man or woman, but that doesn't mean there aren't standards. ♥

John MacArthur has such a clear, organized method of communicating--I have learned a lot from him over the past 28 years or so. Teaching and preaching, and demonstrating his profound love for the church, he is an inspiration. When I heard him preach on his profound love for the church, it really got in my mind and I've thought about it many times throughout the years since. 

Do I love the church?? Really love it? So that I'm all-in even if there are problems? Because there always will be problems. Do I guard the church, build it up, serve in it, keep it undefiled by who I am and what I do? 

I think that lesson from John is one that will stick with me and help me through hard times more than anything else he's said that I've heard.
