I'm doing this excellent Bible study on the character traits of Christ. It is an Elizabeth George study, so nothing light-hearted or easy. It has me thinking a good deal more about my intentionality as a woman striving to please God, and the importance of time in God's word daily has really risen.
With all of the intentional interactions, Bible study, prayer, serving my family and home schooling, I'm finding there is truly little time for idleness or random socializing. It is well for me as through the recent years I've found less enjoyment in getting together to talk with other ladies in a manner that could be repeated time and again.
It seems that we're either to serve those around us, encourage them, help them, instruct or correct them...but to continually 'get together' to talk seems futile and insufficient. Particularly if the people are not striving in the same direction for Christ; then it is utterly pointless and frustrating. At some point we realize who wants to follow Christ and who merely wishes to give mental assent to it. There is a vast difference between someone sacrificing their time and energy in pursuit of the things of God and the person who claims to believe but who does not do the things God says a follower of His will do.
Years ago I finally realized that some people will say the same things over and over again, and eventually their life actions will speak so loudly you won't be able to hear any words they speak.
It is with this in mind I try to prioritize my days and weeks.
Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment that it may give grace to those who hear.
Amen and amen.
